I'm not sure if there is currently something like this happening, but alot of online systems use the forums to give us updates on what is happening with the state of the game and the upcoming patches and what we can look forward to. Is there anyway to have a dev tell us what is happening behind the scenes and what updates we can look forward to.

Nowe don't have something like that. In the beginning, when there was just one update a week, they posted nextcoming update on homepage. But stopped this "service".
We all can just guess and use our polls to show them what we are asking for.
