Title: update problem
Post by: bassman on July 25, 2013, 11:25:35 AM
Having problems updating the client.  Immediatley get a message saying " Your internet connection doesn't seem to work."  I can launch the game and browse and chat with people. (internet is working fine)  But if I enter a room the two characters appear to be merged together and I have no poses or controls.  I have tried uninstall/reinstall with most recent installer, turn off firewall, turn of anti-virus, run as admin, run updater from its exe file, turn off all background programs.

I have been an on and off subscriber for about three years now, and this is the first I have seen of this problem.  Very frustrating seeing as I just paid to renew my sub, and the program is only half usable now.  Tried submitting a support request but nobody has reached me back.  Is there a way to manually update ? (like I said, the client launches and works, but will not update.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

mmmm,   I see your frustrations.  I am not much of a techno wizard  and I'm sure  Lover or people who are more computer literate than me may come up with better ideas...

The reason, I think your rooms are all mashed up is because you have not installed all the programme and updates for whatever reason.   Try uninstalling all of the Achat programme again, so nothing is left of the old programme on your computer.

Then check your computer and get rid of anything you dont need or use anymore.  I'm just wondering how much memory you may have left on your computer or laptop.  Anyway, get rid of anything you dont need anymore.

Then try installing the whole Achat programme again.

If you get an answer from Support or  find a solution, please let us know here,  its always useful for other forum members to know in case, they have a similar problem.

In the meantime, we will all try and brainstorm with you.

Good Luck.

I have tried a complete uninstall (ran uninstaller and then deleted what was left after)  On that note.... why does the uninstaller leave behind OVER 600 MB of data ?!?!  That seems completely unacceptable and I would say is an unfinished uninstaller.  Please fix this, it seems like the uninstaller only removes the shortcuts.  I have plenty of memory available, 4GB ram installed and I keep everything running lean.  Never had any problems before, even on comps with 1/4 of the specs.   Not about to uninstall half the stuff on my comp to play this game, seems totally unneccessary.  Seems like a problem with the Achat software.  Why can the game client access internet connection with no problems but the updater can't ?  Doesn't make much sense.

Trying to keep a cool head but, in 2 1/2 years as a subscriber I have invested well over $250 into this game.  I think it is reasonable to expect a certain level of service.  Right now my subscription is burning away and all I can do is chat with people, no gameplay :(

Somebody, anybody, please help me.

Hello bassman,
I understand you're getting crazy. We always learn something new... I never heard your problems before and I have heard many different troubles..

Just for me to understand:
-The updater doesn't work
- You can start game and chat outside the rooms
- When You go into room, troubles are starting?

First you have to do: Delete all files and folders after uninstalling! Though I don't know why you still have 600MB - Achat is much smaller and chatlog, ignore.php and some other files are smaller too. Perhaps this is your problem?
If you want to keep ignore-list, save them in an extra folder!!!!

After removing EVERYTHING install AChat again.

Tell us, if it was working please.

What is happening is as follows:
When I click on the achat shortcut, the updater is the first thing to pop up, tries for maybe 4-5 secs then I get a popup message saying "your internet connection doesn't seem to work", I click "ok" and the updater then closes and the game client starts as normal.  I can log in, browse profiles (some cannot be viewed), invite, and chat.  When I enter a room there is no poses or controls and both users appear naked and melded together like the DaVinci man.

I have tried the following solutions:
Uninstall followed by manually deleting the folder located at C/users/mypc/Appdata/Local/achat  (why does the uninstaller not delete this folder for me?)
Have tried launching updater manually from its location in that folder
Allow exceptions for achat and the updater in windows firewall and MSE (microsoft security essentials).  Have also tried turning off firewall and MSE altogether.
Have tried running as administrator and have tied several different compatibility modes
Have tried redownloading the installer several times to make sure it's a complete download (280MB)
Have filled out a support request using the link at the top of this page ( NOBODY has gotten back to me, this is the part that makes me angry as a long time, heavily paying customer)
Have tried running task manager and shutting down any unneccessary programs/services
Have tried different internet connections (not a router issue)

Are there any known programs that conflict with achat that I can try uninstalling ?
Is there ANY way to manually update (copy/paste anything somewhere) ?
I can't see why, but would not having the hi-res add on have anything to do with it ?
Should I be using the uninstaller that comes with achat or the add/remove programs feature of windows ?

I greatly appreciate the effort of the forum mods that are trying to help ( you rock, Lover and Brandybee) but would someone from the support team PLEASE get back to me.  Customer service is the cornerstone of any successful business and it is unacceptable that I am not being helped in a timely manner, this company sure accepts my money in a timely manner.

Have you try to check your antivius!? maybe it's blocking AChat and you have to set it to let AChat run freely.....if you have done this before, some update of the antivirus can had change your settings!

i concur with HB. in the past i have had issues with my anti virus (norton) but i have been able to fix the problem. i feel your fustration and i agree that the tech support is some what lacking on this site.

so take a look at your anti virus and let us know if that helped.

1 other question is your PC showing any other problems other than this?

No offense intended, but if you read my previous post I have been very clear that I have added achat as an exception to both my antivirus and my firewall, and have tried completely turning off both antivirus and firewall.

Does anybody else use MSE on their computer when running achat ?  Any issues ?  Solutions ?

My pc runs all my other programs just fine, this is the only one that does not work properly and even then, the client works fine it's the updater that is not working.

I tried downloading and installing the hi-res pack hoping maybe some sort of update would be included but no such luck.

There has to be a way to send me the updates and i can manually put the files where they need to go but SOMEBODY FROM SUPPORT needs to get ahold of me in order to do that and they have not made any effort to respond.

I am going to file ANOTHER support request.  If I continue to be blatantly ignored this team will not see another cent from me.  Say goodbye to a long term paying customer.  There is a great user community here I hope to see you all at a competitors' site, because that's where I will be, giving my money to someone who treats customers properly.

I do feel your frustrations and would no doubt feel exactly the same.  The support team has also been slow in answering us Moderators on occasions and it is holiday season. I think they may well be short staffed at the moment, I know this does not help the situation  but keep firing off  messages using the support system as you have.  Two a week if necessary.

I have had the Avatar cross effect, ie  arms outstretched and feet sunk in the bed.  This was the effect of an upgrade not completed.  It did upgrade after a couple of reboots though.  For some reason, yours does not seem to work.

ACHAT SUPPORT,  Please could you offer some assistance ASAP to try and rectify this problem.

I hope you get an answer soon,   please let us know if you do.

Can anyone else help bassman with ideas on this ?    HB, jayc  thank you for your suggestions so far.

bassman, another member did this:

Quote
Hi,
an update neve run on my PC , always the same problem. But i nfound a way to turn around:

The updater downloads the 1st upgrade and the stops because it can't copy the files and proceed.
So u manually copy the files to the program directory, the update manually my version number and run again the updater so it downloads the next one-

It'a lot of cut and paste work , but i works

Not going to bother trying to manually update, support has STILL not gotten back to me.  I'm out, done with this joke of a business.  Would gladly have subscribed for years to come but it seems I'm not very wanted a a customer.  Good luck to all the others here, but I feel I should warn you, the hardest I've been bent over and screwed on this site is by the owners/dev team.  There is plenty of competition in the porn industry, maybe one of them will treat me better.

Have a good time, hope you find what you're looking for and all the best for your life.

As mentioned, in rare situations, antivirus and other security/download accelerator tools may affect the working of the Auto updater. MSE is also such a tool. During our tests it didn't cause any problems, but it is possible, that on your configuration it does. One possible experiment was to uninstall MSE to see if this solves the problem (it should be possible to reinstall it thereafter without any problems).
Hope this helps.

I have the same thing happening to me, as i use McAfee and normaly have my Realtime Scanning on, that is causing the problem, so when ever i get a message upgrade failed i close down Achat again.

Then i got to McAfee turn the Realtime scanning off and not closing that screen i start up Achat. Now it upgrades just fine and as soon as the update is done and the program starts i turn my Realtime Scanning back on.

Then everything is just fine and all works.

I hope this helps you

Hi... umm first time on forums so I'll make it quick...  :)  I'm having the exact same problem and I've tried everthing listed here and from other... forum dealeys  ::) I've disabled my firewall and anti-virus while trying to run cleared whatever I don't need from my computer... Tried running as administrator, adding it as an exception (including the version updater from the file location) I completely removed and installed again twice from Achat's uninstall and control panel.(All it served to do was remove two updates I had PAID for already  >:( >:( ) Just can't get it to work  :( I haven't made any changes and I have been on here for a while now... never had the problem until about 2 weeks ago.

Just completely stuck  :-\  Anymore advice or where to look for a guide to sort it would be appreciated but so far not found something that works on the forums :( :( :( Really enjoy the community here and have made quite a few friends... *sighs* I don't want to be forced away from it  :'(

Dont worry about the updates you have paid for - you still have them.
There is a way installing it "by hand", though its rather hard. Its listed in this board (im not at home now, just using mobile)
You also can send a message to support.

Which soft- and hardware are you using?

I had a similar problem a couple of months back.  I had to turn everything else off and keep  going back to the beginning and start achat again, sometimes as many as 5 times.  it would then accept the upgrade. It eventually corrected itself and I've had no problems since.

On another occasion, I had upgraded another programme, I think it was adobe, and think it affected Achats programme somehow. On that occasion I had to uninstall everything I could find of Achat from my computer. I then reinstalled from scratch. It fixed the problem

Have you recently upgraded anything new?

Try unistalling Achat completely, then checking that everything to do with Achat is gone from you PC.   Install from scratch again. The number in the lower right hand corner should read   Ver: 1.18

Good luck, I hope it works. Keep us updated on how you get on. I'm sure other members will have other ideas to solve it too.

Also see       Forum Home Page > Support > Slip of the pen (Report bugs) > wont update.

A similar problem was experienced by another member & mrsexlover found the solution.    ;D

If you remove AChat you have to make sure also the AChat folder is removed, which doesn't happen automatically.

Do you use anti-virsu softaware? Which?
Do you havea firewall? Which?
Are you running windows? Which?

If thius message appears (sometimes it happens to me too) usually the updater can't connect to achat server. I can help tomorrow if you have time - then we make it step by step, slow and easy :)

Okay i removed the game and reinstalled it but it did not fix my problem. I even looked at my  Firewall and anti-vires software, Achat as full access.

I am using WIndows 8 and my firewall/ anti-vires software is Mcafee Security Center.

No updates for them have been added to my computer in awhile, my problem started with the last update for achat. I hope this helps.

also I get the error message when auto updater try to ( Extracting compressed files..).

I actually managed to get 4 of the previous updates downloaded once randomly and for that day everything worked fine. Only thing I can of now is my Internet service provider... Only thing changed. Updates used to be fine but now it's randomly updating maybe once every 2 weeks. Connection is better than before but it's still not letting me. Little stuck... :/

Thank you for your welcome and advice Brandybee but as i've mentioned in previous posts I've disabled my antivirus and firewall before trying to download an update.

From what I've seen on the AVG forums... the free version doesn't have realtime scanning (I'm using the free edition). I have had the antivirus for a while with no changes made to it and it was fine before.

Just feels like I'm going in circles now  :(

There doesn't have to be realtime scanning, perhaps it's blocked in general. Ok, you said you disbaled it...
Hve you done a completely restart of your computer? If so, remove AChat completely, download and install again.
