Just hope its nice and clear on Friday morning. Or I will have to just go up one of the big hills around here just to get above the clouds.

Have to time my break so I can stop and have a watch.

If someone wants to watch it, always wear special glasses! Sun glasses aren't enough and no glasses are no good lol.

Eclipse fever is hitting the UK. They have run out of eclipse glasses already!

The crutial times are between 9.25am to 9.45am tomorrow morning in the UK.

The clouds are threatening to spoil the view but even f they do and you have no glasses to see it, you can still feel it.  It will darken and the wildlife around will think its gone dusk.  Still worth the experience.

Here's a web page about it and includes a clip of what happens.  Its worth a look.

Enjoy everyone.  Hope you see it from where you are.

Maybe we feel more. There are serious concerns in germany about a big blackout because of the up- and downturns in our electricity. We use a lot solar energy and if this stops and suddenly comes back, they aren't sure if they can balance and handle it.

If you folks in the UK have a welding supply shop near you, you can always get a welding lens.  That's what I use here on those occasions when I can view an eclipse.

Get either a number 10 or number 11.  Number 9 and under are too light (in my opinion) and you don't need anything darker than an 11.  You don't need the whole hood or goggles, just the lens, and the lenses cost about $3 here in the US.

You also can use X-ray photographs - so the docs here say.

@ Lover -   it may cause Germany problems, but that would kind of enhance the experience if you had a good black out :P

Power to the people  8)   (https://cdn2.iconfinder.com/data/icons/vector-easter-eggs/220/easter_egg_blue-512.png)(https://cdn2.iconfinder.com/data/icons/vector-easter-eggs/220/easter_egg_blue-512.png)

I found another couple of ways of seeing the eclipse without hurting your eyes, if you didn't manage to get any special eclipse glasses, or welding lenses or xray photos
( Thanks guys for those suggestions )

Pinhole projector
Use a pin to create a small hole in the centre of a piece of card.

Stand with your back to the eclipse and hold the perforated piece of card up so it gets the full force of the eclipse.

Then, use a second piece of card or A4 paper, preferably white, as a screen in front of you.

The eclipse will be projected through the pinhole and onto the screen.

-----------------

Colander or  large kitchen spoon with holes.

The holes in the colander can be used instead of the perforated card to project several images of the eclipse onto a piece of white card in the same way as a pinhole projector.

Come on, you are Germany, I have seen the Ads -  Vorsprung Durch technique...   please tell me you have a generator..  If not set the bikes up for an hour and use pedal power, with the colander strapped to your head and the card on the floor so you can see the eclipse at the same time.

Now there would be a pic for forum :)

Lover, the mad scientist :)

Actually there is a pic of me

And no generator lol. We would need an own power plant for all the energy. We had it until the late 70s. 1000 people were working there. The power plant is demolished now and the people have never been seen again ::)

This solar eclipse was amazing and I was lucky enough to be out there with a clear sky.

It was not a full eclipse where I was but I saw the smile of the sun as the moon crossed over it.  The temperature dropped and the sky darkened.  The wildlife around acted like it was dusk. The birds were singing the dusk chorus and flying to the trees to roost.

It was an experience I will never forget.

I urge anyone, whoever gets the chance to step out and insist wherever you are,  to go and experience this phenomenon. Its awesome.

Thank you nature and universe for sharing it with us.
