Title: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 11, 2010, 06:36:29 PM
This is entirely unrelated to AChat, but I am sitting here listening to Within Temptation and thinking about how I want to have Sharon Del Adel's baby... yes we're both women, and no the technology is not currently available, but as soon as it is.  :D

So what is everyone else listening to?

Eva Cassidy!

Unfortunately she's not with us anymore, but her voice is still my biggest inspiration.

Oh honey, while they may not be with us, they never leave. I'm still in mourning over the loss of Ronnie James Dio, but I also know the man's body of work has made him immortal.

IMO this is totally related to Achat.  Nobody else notices how repetitive the music is?  How about some more original tracks.  And also can we put our own mp3s in the music folder, so we have something better to listen to while we are playing Achat??
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 11, 2010, 08:52:32 PM
I haven't heard of that, but I've played both Windows Media Player and Project Playlist while running AChat and had no trouble hearing the music, and yes, the music is the one AChat feature I would and could truly complain about it they hadn't put in the mute.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: sinnnn on June 12, 2010, 12:31:53 AM
K, I listen to everything and I mean everything.  But right now a really cool aussie(kisses) has introduced me to this band an I think they totally rock.  They are called Tool, and also The Tea Party.   :)

I always have my music on mute when it comes to Achat.  Its so annoying, like I am stuck in a elevator at a porn studio banging my head against the wall screaming,"MAKE IT STOP!! OH GOD MAKE IT STOP!!"  So please A-Team, MAKE IT STOP.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: apollo13nut on June 12, 2010, 01:12:55 AM
Oh, I totally agree with the "MUTE" button....if it didn't exist, I'd NEVER have gotten a premium membership.

As for what I listen to, I love Savage Garden, Fleetwood Mac, Barenaked Ladies, Matchbox 20, Nickleback, Britney Spears.....just to name a few....sorry, child of the 1980's

I like the suggestion of being able to "stream" our own music, but as mentioned, just mute and fire up Media Player (or whatever you use on comp) or turn on the radio.

I loved the 80's man.  They really loved, felt the music back then.  U2, yes U2.   ;D

Welcome to 2010 people of the 80s. Aaaaaaannnnnddddddd yes, I am stuck in the 80s too. I hear lots of music, from oldies up to the newest ones. But the 80s are and forever will be my favourite music.
U2? great! Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Depeche Mode (yes, they are from the 80s kids, lol) and....
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: mikki on June 12, 2010, 03:44:23 AM
I'll listen to most anything, from Ozyy to The Beach Boys, and everyone between.. But for me as well as a few above, The 80's still rule. And I always have mt Windows Media Player going, and AChat on mute. My primary playmate here, and I have our own playlist, which we can both have running in the background at the same time It is just another way for us to connect with one another, enhancing the experiences we have here.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Bear on June 12, 2010, 10:04:33 AM
Now it is going to sound repetitive,...yeah the music of the 80's. Depends on my mood though since I love most forms of music across the spectrum. That includes classical at times. Generally use Pandora to generate the playlist so I am free to focus on other matters while maintaining some diversity. Love the guitar (and actually kick back and play for a while if the board is quiet and no one of interest is available while I wait awhile) , so if you're going to peg me down,...Clapton,  Santana,..BB King...and others with the talent for the strings.

I have to admit a good percentage of what's worthwhile now a days started in the 80's and 90's.

But I have to say this out loud... Ozzy needs to retire... he's needed to retire for a long while now. His best days are behind him. He needs to take a page from the Scorpions who are putting out one last album, doing one last tour, and retiring.

I think it was around 2000 that companies started to manufacture bands... and that's when things started to go to Hell, because even those with genuine talent were encouraged into mass marketed boxes unless they were already proven successful.

Now if it isn't from the distant past  ;D it's from Europe... like Within Temptation.

I also like Incubus/Succubus... I'm hoping Rob Zombie manages to get a tour going with them. At last I heard their pagan themes have them banned here in the US.

Oh but on a distinctly AChat related theme I would recommend anyone with a taste for metal check out Halestorm (spelled like that) more specifically their songs "I get off" and "Dirty Mind".
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Carli on June 12, 2010, 11:19:58 AM
Aah, Within Temptation, from my own home country :D

If you like them, you might also like other European bands like K's Choice (90's, Belgium), The Gathering (90's, Netherlands) or Nightwish (00's, Finland).
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: sinnnn on June 13, 2010, 11:30:46 PM
I know this has nothing to do with the topic but I'm bored an I was having a 80's movie marathon(hanging my head down in shame).  Anyhooo I love The Breakfast Club, SomeKind of Wonderful and Sixteen Candles oh an the Legend of Billie Jean.  Yeah I said. :P
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 14, 2010, 04:30:04 AM
Oh sweetie *patting that hung head* if you're going to watch 80's movies you need to watch the comedies. Today's comedies just aren't as funny  as the ones where Williams, Ackroyd, Hanks, Murray or Chase were in their prime.

Now it seems like as soon as some Saturday Night Live looser comes up with a single winning skit they get a movie deal... back then they had to have some actual talent.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Bear on June 14, 2010, 06:32:19 AM
Janine you're right Ozzy needs to retire,  if he didn't have that commercial tie in with reality tv one wonders what his draw would be.

Carli, I liked the groups you suggested,...

Sinnnn, Butlers links were awesome,...finger work amazing, ...wonder if he wears acrylics on the strumming hand since those fingernails were very long.

If anyone has a deep interest in music,...looking into the works of Leonard Cohen would be a recommendation. he's a poet/lyrist around since the 60's and very influential to the foundation of rock and roll, and amazingly some current hits. A voice like some one singing with gravel their mouth, but this suggestion is oriented towards those an interest in the evolution of a body of work, not just an individual song, deeply erotic on some levels.

Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 14, 2010, 06:54:43 AM
Please don't get me wrong. I love Ozzy, I'm one of those generational Ozzy fans, and that would be part of his allure because I know I'm not the only one to find Ozzy in their parents record collection, but comparing what I found then to what he's putting out now... some like Ronnie James Dio burned cooler, but burned longer.

Ozzy's burned hot, and bright, and he's burned out. His age combined with his drug use... I mean there was a commercial for this cellphone that had him on it because he's so incomprehensible while speaking.

I know that on his tour with Rob Zombie he had a team of sound engineers because it sounded like a couple hundred Ozzy's were coming out of the speakers, and that's apparently the only way he can tour. His normal voice is so shot.

Yet with all that in mind he's putting out ANOTHER album. Now "Black Rain" wasn't awful damn well wasn't Blizzard of Oz either, and I can't see "Scream" getting that lightening back in the bottle.

Instead it will just try to milk his popularity for one more album, one more Oz fest, just one more, until the fans say no more, and that LEGACY dies.

Yes Ozzy will always be remembered, but at this rate it won't be as one of the Metal Gods like Ronnie, but as a has been touring  reality tv like Bret Michaels.

On that topic Janine, how about the one titled "I think of me when I touch yourself"? ;)
I know it's a cruel thing to say, but I still find the name funny. This is in no way directed to you or anyone in here. Just wanted to make that clear.

How bout Vast, the Verve, Static-X, Sigur Ros, Solange,  Lifehouse, Karnivool, Goyte,  Dry Cell, Deftones, Cog, The Black Keys, Black Lab and of course Alicia Keys.

Got carried away, but I love music.  ;D :D ;)

did you mean "when i think about you I touch myself" or is there an alternative song/lyric??
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 18, 2010, 01:03:43 AM
I was wondering that myself AZN. I AM familiar with the Divynls song and I've heard of two covers, but they seemed to stay true to the lyrics.

And Sinnnn I've heard of some of those, but the one I've listened to with any regularity is Static-X, but I prefer Wayne with Linkin Park.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: bouli on June 18, 2010, 01:54:09 AM
It's another song. I like the other one too, it's a classic. Both are fitting this setting I suppose, whereas the one I mentioned was used (by the band and by me) to cause some confusion. Seems to have worked just fine.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 18, 2010, 10:43:12 AM
Is there a link Bouli?
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: bouli on June 18, 2010, 10:59:41 AM
Can't seem to find it, no. But it's not really one of their better songs anyway. I just like the title. :P
It's by a French band named Tamtrum. They're playing electronic music which used to be a lot harder and darker before this last album.

Most of their titles are quite provocative, so they stick to mind.

So yea, I'm into electronic music, ranging from electropop, over synthpop, industrial and up to things bordering on noise and techno. (EBM being my favourite genre for those familiar with the subgenres.)
I also enjoy 80's music along with the rest of the crowd posting in here as well as early 90's for nostalgia. Used to be a metal fan, so I do have some old favourites from that time as well along with some rock classics.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 18, 2010, 11:04:25 AM
I can like a synthesizer, but it must be an angry/suffering synthesizer like a Rammstein or KMFDM. Which I suppose is connecting back more to metal then techno.

Lil Wayne, T.I.,  Nuttin But Stringz, Pink, Rascal Flatts, Kidney Thieves, Marilyn Mason, Godhead, Disturb, A tribe Called Quest, Noisettes, Ne-yo, Morris Day and the Times, Modern English, Mary J. Blige, and Busta Ryhmes.  Did I say I love music ;D
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Janine Dee on June 19, 2010, 01:10:12 AM
Yes sweetie, but what do you like about them? Like with my music choices... 70-80% have edge to them... even aggression at times. It's what I like, and I like it because mellower music tends to leave me feeling they didn't "feel" it. I'm a  passionate woman, and it shows on my MP3 player.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: sinnnn on June 19, 2010, 11:51:10 AM
I feel the music.  I like to sit in the dark sometimes an just listen to them.  Some music I just love the lyrics, others just the music, and sometimes both.  There are some that has my hips moving before I even realized they are.  Some sends tingles all down my body and I'm thinking thats the shit, right there.

For example Nuttin But Stringz, I love their violin playing more than their lyrics.  When it comes to rap, I like the music more, it makes me dance.  Now Eminem, some of his lyrics are interesting, but his music has my hips movin left an right.

So when it comes to music, I won't limit myself.  Music to me is like what a perfect wave is to a true surfers.  I have been called a oreo cookie because of the music I listen to.  When I listen to heavy, opera,  etc.  I ask them don't you hear? don't you feel it?

Well thats the best I can say sweety.  Anyhooo later. ;D
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: mikki on June 19, 2010, 08:56:30 PM
I have to agree with you sinnnn. Each and everything you like will bring something different to the party. Sometimes it's the lyrics speaking to ypur soul, soothing it, or making you think about life. Other times it is just a really good beat that makes you want to get up and move. Or sometimes, just a voice that appeals. I'll listen to anything twice, just in case I was wrong with the first opinion. A lot of music from  the 70's & 80's had a true feeling to it, whereas a lot of music now is just cookie cutter stuff, with no soul, or originality left in it. I'm not saying all nw music is like this. A lot of it is though.
Title: Re: Favorite Music

Sinnnn, first time I have heard Rascal Flatts and Marilyn Mason used in the same sentence.

It happened when the record labels stopped finding groups and started making them. You can't make art by committee, but that's how they are now making a sad majority of the music.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Bear on June 20, 2010, 10:08:21 AM
Janine you are right about most mellow music, most don't feel. Far easier to display the emotion of anger in music than to show the softer forms of emotion in song. There are gems out there,... few and far between.

KD Langs "Halellujah"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYiMJ2bC65A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYiMJ2bC65A)

The songwriter on hearing it, remarked, he thought it the best version of his song,... relaying the emotion he wanted and felt when he wrote it. That's the big difference between now and music of the 70'... 80's  and now. Fearless writers/performers laying it out. Not concerned about the marketing image.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: Carli on June 20, 2010, 11:30:57 AM
In my opinion, singing IS emotion, and I bow deep to all those singers that can lay it down all in a song. One of the best male singers in that respect is still Tom Waits. His first album Closing Time (1973) should be a mandatory piece in every music collection.

From that album, my personal favorite, "I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5MXGGcIbkI

If someone would sing a song like this for me, I WOULD fall in love ;)
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: sinnnn on June 20, 2010, 12:50:25 PM
Thats one reason why I am a  fan with the 70's an 80's.  Hell its always bout sex an rarely love.  Its about getting revenge than forgiving.  I don't want to listen to music that makes me angry all the time.  I'm no longer a teenager, I don't need to go back in time with those emotions.

Most singers played for the love of it, not the money.  And Halellujah, was one of my fav.  Peace n Love.

Wait We can post AMV's?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOqXp5oYk_w&feature=related

The visible difference in animation is because they did a "Hellsing" anime which was quite good, but the manga's author saw it and said it needed to be redone, and it's the amazing "Hellsing Ultimate"

The band is Lordi, and they rock both there and in this AMV.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiGaU79TFxs

I'm thinking of seeing if I can contract the song "Had Rock Hallelujah" for my theme music, not ring tone, theme music.

And one for those still stuck in the 80's.

Yeah Janine, Mr. Robot from Styx. I loved this song in the 80s. They had another big hit "Boat On The River". If you compare this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rRvSwKCCPY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rRvSwKCCPY) with Mr. Roboto http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cShYbLkhBc&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cShYbLkhBc&feature=related) you can't believe it's the same band.
Ironically Mr. Roboto was a big disco hit with more than 1000000 single sellers, it was the beginning of the end of them.

Lordi is a band from Finland, they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. Big surprise! The first time a hard-rock band with strange masks took part and won.

Actually, I can't remember where I saw that about Lordi, but I did see that... for me I saw that Demons and Angels AMV and LOVED the song... so I did some looking into the band behind it, and yes I've heard some of Styx's other stuff and wondered how they could be the band behind Mr. Roboto.
Title: Re: Favorite Music
Post by: mikki on June 25, 2010, 11:42:32 AM
Styx was a band with a widely varied talent base, whose members all contributed to material. Though most often DeYoung had control over their material over the years. Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw both found moderate success as Solo artists after Styx. . Dennis DeYoung's Desert Moon is an example of his personal success. Tommy Shaw had Girls with guns. James Young did not ackieve much success on his own. Like you, I still have to wonder where Mr. Roboto came from.Actually it was part of an Operatic Rock Concept album Still,  How do you go from Sail Away to this? Tommy Shaw later went on to be part of the super group Damn Yankees.

I haven't seen Berserk, but the one who got me hooked on anime (To those who aren't into anime if a anime fan ever says "Just borrow this one, take it home and see what you think." run away it's the same thing as "The first one's free." from a  dealer.) said it's awesome right up to the last ep, and then it basically destroys it's own storyline with an insensible end.

I remember with me... I didn't know what yuri was, but he did. So I got it home and was watching, and watching, and giggling at some of the standards like the teen aged boy hero who looks like a pre-pubescent girl... and then there was these two female characters and I figured there might be some subtext... maybe a little something from whenever they have "sweeps" in Japan, but right away they move close and my thoughts were "No way." Closer "No way!" and then they kissed "NO WAY!" and yeah I was lost... they allowed female to female loving without any need for subtext or the like??? Yeah I was hooked.

You need to get the Dragonforce CD Inhuman Rampage the song Through the Fire and the Flames has one of the finest definitions of guitar shred.

Tatu?, nope, they're fake, but Melissa Ethridge said it best about how wonderful it is someone can pretend to be a lesbian to HELP their career. I just love them because after all those pop songs girls wrote to boys to have girls writing love songs to girls I decided that would be my pop weak spot.

I actually had a record store order Tatu's Russian version for me. I saw the video for "All the things she said" on a videos of the world kind of thing and saw their video where two girls are kissing each other passionately in a rain storm and thought "This is relevant to my interests."

Of course their song "Not going to get us." had a performance on the '03 MTV awards that was also very relevant to my interests.

James Blunt? Ooooh, a real sleeping pill in my mind...

Pink and Aerosmith are great! Have to be played on every party.

There is a German band that I love to listen at the moment and one song is my absolute favourit one, It's German. If anybody wants to have a translation I will do this. The singer wrote it, when his best friend died. It's a mixture of fear, doubt and hope. The band is "Unheilig" (= unhallowed) and the song is "Geboren um zu leben" (Born to live)

I can't remember the name, maybe one of you will guess it.

They are a German band and I think they were banned in American.  I was introduced to them but I can't remember their damn name.

They are heavy and known to use a fake penis and "piss" on the crowd.
