You know why Clerks is my one of my favorite movie. Its because they hit the nail on the head when it comes to customers. They ask stupid questions or do really stupid things that it makes you want to scream.
I use to work at a retail store. This lady was looking for ties for her son. She would pick up a tie and then drop it onto the floor. Pick up another one and then drop it on the floor. I watched this annoying ass chic, just waiting for her to walk away from her mess. I was at the age where I just don't if i get fired or not. Of course she tried to walk away from the mess she made. I taught her how to pick things up. ;D
-
Indeed sinnnn, rule no 1 in marketing, sales, support etc.: customers are always more stupid than you think.
I used to have a job next to my graduate studies (hope that's the correct term) on a helpdesk for mobile phones. I once spoke to a customer who needed to enter a combination (probably for unlocking or transferring or something like that) that started with *11*. So I asked her - yes, it was a woman *sigh* - to press "star - eleven - star" etc. After that a long silence followed at the other end of the line, so I asked "Madam, are you still there?". On which she replied "Yes dear, but I can't find the "eleven" on my phone" :D
-
I think I will have perdestrian rage. Then next person that almost hit me with their car because they are to busy talking on the cell and drives over the line with get totally cussed out. Really they have it in the store now where you can have your phone on a stand and you can use your speaker phone. :-\
-
Well if it is gripe time, then I can certainly vent. I live in what I call a "destination" location, a place where folks from the city flock to for recreatio. Mind you most of them are nice people, but after a weekend like this the jerks that parade around like it's their privilege right to be drunk and obnoxious tires one. When I first moved here, I wasn't certain where to launch my boat, ended up asking a local for directions, which seemed fairly clear..."Head down the street and make aright at Woolworth's"
Seemed fairly simple, though a Woolworth (an old drug store chain) being around seemed odd,...well I drove,...and drove, until it I knew I had well past any possibility of the directions accuracy. Ended up backtracking and eventually found the launch site after an hour.
Five years later while driving thru town, one of the buildings was being renovated, the current facade had been removed , and low and hold there was the Woolworth sign beneath. , right at the corner to turn to the launch site. Ended up mentioning the fact to the fellow who had given me the directions, (we had since become friends) about it, he grinned and told me, that I had rubbed him wrong with the way I worded the question, and he gave me good directions, for a time period of 20 years in the past. Had to laugh at it.
Was talking to a friend at the market on the 4th, a fellow drives up in a tricked out Hummed towing a beautiful ski boat, yells at me for directions to the launch. Not ask,... yells at me interrupting my conversation. then pressed the issue again,...before I knew, the words were slipping through my mouth
"yeah, just follow the street down to Woolwroth's...."

My new mobile phone has to be repaired. When I talke to the woman of the service, she asked for a mobil phone number. They want to send me messages. I said "You can't send me messages if you have my mobile phone and do not give me another one." "But I need your number, maybe we have to call you back." "You can't call me back if you have my mobile." "Imust have a number, I can't go on with the standard procedure in this form." "Ah, ok, 1234567" "Oh, this is a funny number." I said "Yes, now as you say it, I also have to laugh."
-
Need someone opinion. ;D
Would you still tip if the service you receive from your waiter/waitress was horrible? :P
Do you think a restaurant has the right to already add your tip to your bill without your say so? :-\
-
Thank you Sinnnn! I agree 100000% percent.... I HATE the idea that tips have become mandatory. I DO grade on a curve if say a restaurant is busy, BUT it REALLY pisses me off that someone can do a crappy job and EXPECT you to give them extra for it! When I get good service I tip quite generously, but I'm not going to tip you just for doing what you are already being paid for.
-
In Germany it's not allowed to add a tip to the bill.
I like to tip if I feel well. A friendly service always will get a generously tip. But an uninterested, unfirendly service doesn't get anything. If I am not satisfied with the food I get, I also tell this (though this doesn't mean I don't tip the waiter/waitress).
Good luck, I almost get a good service and good food.
-
But I will say this. Never piss of anyone that is handling your food. I don't care if you have to mediatate, find God all over again. You find that inner peace somehow. I use to work in the food industry and all the horror stories are true. You piss someone off and your hamburger patty is going to be used as a hockey puck before it gets to you. :-\
-
I am talking about the standard question after you finished: "Was it good? Are you satisfied?" I know many people, saying "Oh yes!!!!!" then go out, saying "it was bad." And it's always the sound that makes the music (a German saying which means even bad news can be told in a nice way ).
-
ty for you tipping input. I was having a major debate because I had picked up the tip from the table and I dropped a penny down. The waitress ignored the hell out of us half the time.
I know what you mean about that Lover. One of my friends does that, its the one that likes to leave tips even when the service sucks.
But I was trying to say that sometimes you get bad service because some ppl tend to be bad customers. When it comes to someone handling your food, you shouldn't be a bad customer. ::)
-
OK, sinnnn, I take your advice; probably this is the reason I almost am friendly :D
I also have to say there are more bad customers then bad waiter/waitress; and everyone is allowed to have a bad day.
-
True bout the bad days. I do try to contoll that, because my day sucked doesn't mean I have to follow the old saying by heart." Misery loves company". One day this girl and her boyfriend came in my store, I had waited on them. After they left my employee told me that I was coming off with an atitude with them. I was surprised when she told me that, so I called up the young lady and said sorry. The young lady blue me off and when I told my employee, she promised to keep her mouth shut next time. Cause maybe the chic deserved my atitude. LOL
I have held alot of different jobs, so I treat every employee I meet with the utmost respect. Hell I have ended up having personal conversations with my service providers. But if I'm treating you with mad respect and you treat me like something on your shoe, bad day or not your going to find a penny on your table.
-
That kind of gets to that curve I'll grade on. For me it's the persons attitude... you can be having a bad day as long as you are still trying.
-
Well, 2 cents on the matter, if the service is needlessly and unexplainable bad, I don't tip or scale it back. Nor do I remain quiet if the food itself is bad, I am paying for a product and if it fails to meet expectation,..management should hear about it, especially if the establishment adds the tip into the bill. I am self employed and have had to justifiably bite the bullet on my fees when things went sideways or wrong, I expect no different from others.
-
That's the biggest problem Bear... and I'm going to allow this mini-rant that it inspired come out.
We've all worked with them, the people who think that they earn they pay check by showing up. As long as they are there (mostly) on time and stay there for (again most) of the shift then they earned their pay, and as long as nothing they failed to do is noticed on their shift then that is that.
Then if you DARE to ask them to try to take care of a little more in between their bouts of standing around then you are being too uptight. Sure you can go to the boss and mention it, but that will get maybe a week's worth of half-assed effort before the slacker in question figures (correctly) the boss has moved on to worrying about other issues.
It ties back into the tipping thing because it boils down to a sense of entitlement. That they deserve it simply for wanting it, and those who don't just up and give it to them are denying them what rightfully belongs to them.
-
Here is something to think about.
Why do we shave our pubic hair? Think about it, that shit do not feel good when it grows back. Then you have to keep it trim so you won't get that scratchy feel. Its to much drama. I say keep it trim.
To me for both men/woman keep it trim. I find a hairy chest(men only ;D) sexy(not the yeti sexy). Now if your naturally hairless thats okay, its natural. Now if your swimmer, I understand the need to shave. To get me to shave it all off, you have to bribe me something good. ;D
Hair=maturity

(saw you hit a 100 bear, congrats)
Tipping
I have worked all my life. Had odd jobs. I believe in giving 110% in every job I do. I take pride in everything I do, no matter if its shoveling shit(never did, but if I had to, pride). I give good service because I treat ppl the way I want to be treated. Ppl work hard for that paycheck and the pay tend to be crap so I will not give anyone in service a hard time. Unless your a dick. Problem with ppl these days is that they don't want to take the responsiblity for their actions. Ppl have this sense of entitlement. We all have that, some in spades, some barely a drop and it comes out in certain areas in our lives.
You have customers who think its their God givin right to treat ppl in service like shit, because they think they are better and businesses tell the customers that you are right.
You have employees who figure my pay is shit, my benefits are shit so the customer is going to get shit.
I realize there is no right answer or wrg answer to this debate. When the situation arrives, you have to handle it the best that you can. With less violence and foul language. I even learned to stop leaving pennies on the table. ;D
-
For me it's a matter of honor... the job thing, not the pubic debate :P.
If I take the check I gave my word to look out for their interests. I feel I can't do that then I have the right to quit, but as long as I keep cashing their checks I have to keep at it.
For me half-assing it is almost a form of theft. No you don't have to work yourself into the ground each time, every time, but if something (or someone in the case of a customer) needs to be taken care of you are obligated to take care of it because you took their money to do so.
As far as the pubic debate... I'm torn. I both trim and shave. So while I'm not bare I definitely don't go for the natural look either, but I would prefer the extreme of a bald pussy then the birds nest look some girls go for.
-
I'm with Sinnn, trimmed is much better! I have earned my hair and am proud of it, but do not enjoy the whole bush thing either. Trimmed is neet and clean on both sexes!
-
Realize the question is about hair, but had to laugh at the pic,...that hat is way too small for him.
-
Not looking at the hat, won't stay on his "head" for long anyway.
K, is a hangover suppose to last all day, damn. Word to the wise Rum is a hell of a drink. So is whiskey. Next year I'll just have a cake and hang out with 60yr olds so I can feel really young. LOL
-
That, depends on the 60 year old crowd you hang with,...I certainly ran into a wild bunch last night at the rodeo,...and am paying for it this a.m....pass the aspirin and a hair of the dog.
-
K, I wanted to ask this for a long time. Whats up with everyone saying Hun?
Where I am from Hun was said round the 60 with the behive or in John Waters' movies. So when I got here its been Hun this an Hun that. So was wondering. I'm guessing its like me saying Babe all the time. ;D
-
Yeah, just a generic term I would guess.
-
Yup generic short phrase, like "bb",...sorry I just think your request of "GODDESS OF AWESOMENESS" was a bit much,...
live with it hun'
-
LOL ;D
-
Hey man i am not "babe" i am a men as you probably
I need to vent because well, I can. And I am more pissed at myself for letting some lil dick get to me for something so small.
I won't name names, but he might reply. LOL
He got pissed because I called him Babe. Dude all you had to do is say, I don't like to be called babe. Didn't have to suggest I had a dick or even go there. And I wouldn't have told you to kiss my beautiful, beautiful black FEMALE ass. And you got guys here wondering why they can't find chics to go in a room with them. Well if you keep insulting the real thing, then yes you will get dudes in a room Babe. I even said welcome and corrected myself when I thought he misunderstood me. You can't be nice to everyone. Almost makes me want to be anti-social.
Ahhhhhh I feel better now. I vented.
Ps,
Babe does not mean I am calling you a chic. Its universal here in America. Universal, meaning its a term that can be used for both sexes. Ask next time before you decide to go there.
-
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
lol :D
-
Hey man i am not "babe" i am a men as you probably
Is he many? Lol
-
I noticed that but I was trying to be nice. lol.
He has to be something to get chics in achat with that "let me insult with no just cause" attitude. :P
-
hmm,..rooming with Don Rickles there,... :D
-
Cell phone and driving. Sorry for those who do this that are here in achat but sista has to vent.
The next person that has to hit the breaks, because they didn't see the redlight, and is about to hit me because they are on their cellphone with get my version of road rage. You just do not know how many times I have lucked out and the idiots are always the ones on their cellphone. Really, I do believe they created something called a bluetooth earpiece and also something called SPEAKER PHONE. USE IT. Also for those who think you can do your nails, or eat, or even drive with your knees while doing whatever, explain that to the parents or family member of the person you hit.
-
It's not just in cars either. I've had times where I'm about to cross the street and then some a-hole nearly hits me, and more times then not they are chatting away on a cellphone.
Personally texting while driving is worse, you don't have to look while talking, but texting WILL take your eyes off the road.
-
I don't drive at all. I'm a walker, so I do know what you mean. :-X :-\ :-[ I had to cuss out a guy because I wasn't walking fast enough for him and He was the one that had speeded up to make the light, an turn where I was walking. He missed the light, didn't care for the finger I gave him and decided to get out of his car. Of course he had a cellphone. I find some men funny at times, I bet he thought I was going to back down because he was a guy and he got out of his car. LOL :P
-
Hmm I find it funny that Sweden is the only country in EU that doesn't have a law against talking on your phone while driving, but then snuff (moist powder tobbaco) which is illegal in the rest of EU and surströmming (EU is thinking about forbidding it) is allowed too.
-
Surströmming?
Snuff is allowed to use (in car) in most of EU countries. I'm sure there are so less people using it, they simply "forget" it, when talking about alcohol, nicotin, mobile phones and drugs :)
-
@Sinnnn What get's me is the people who park in the damn cross walk... like those three feet are going to make that much of a difference in getting you where you need to go! I think the law should be modified to allow people to walk right over their damn hoods. Maybe a few dozen foot shaped dents would remind them to respect pedestrians.
@Adera You have people talking on their cell phones, doing snuff (and whatever the heck that other words is too) while driving? Remind me to cross the streets quickly if I ever visit your lovely homeland.
-
LOL, maybe to walk over "their damn hoods" is creating a new individual style, a modern design "Look at my car, it has this new footmade style, now it's much more valuable!"
And to the mobiles, it's forbidden in Germany (you must have a handsfree) but I very often notice people talking with the mobile in their hands. On the other hand, don't know the numbers, but I don't think there are many accidents made by this.
There are more accidents made by drunken drivers (which I hate) and from truck driver who are overtired.
-
Janine snuff is just tobacco that you put between your upper lip and the teeths, making the teeths yellow and corroding the flesh around the exposed teeth in you mouth *shuddering* its so disgusting. And some people kiss each other like that *bleh*
Surströmming is fermented Baltic herring smells awful, people eating it outside makes the whole neighbourhood suffer from the smell. At least in my case as I don't like it.
But crossing the streets here is no problem the law says that cars have to stop for pedestrians.
-
Cars have to stop? Really? But only on small streets, or?
You're talking about chewing tobacco. I agree, that's really icky. Snuff (in Germany) is tobacco, which you use inside your nose; it's almost with menthol and made to "free" your nose from dust e.g. Many people who are working in coal mines are using it and in Bayerb it's also used; there are championchips in taking it (the biggest dose and so on)
-
Okay, I just looked up the english translation and thats what I got.
They only have to stop at uncontrolled pedestrian crossings, if there are lights then those are used.
-
Snuff as I know it is what Lover described, so I had the image of people snorting the stuff while driving.
As far as cell phone use... I don't know about Europe, but it's getting bad enough here in the states that there are campaigns to get people to stop, but then again I'm cynical enough to figure our elected officials need SOME way to justify their paychecks so they come up with things to rally against so they don't look quite so incompetent.
-
Cell phone use while driving is my biggest peeve. My small community of 500 has lost two residents to cell phone use,...separate incidents when both were ran down in a crosswalk while the driver was too preoccupied to notice changes in speed limits and the surrounding. In this state hands free is required, still doesn't stop people.
-
Numbers? Screw them. One child being killed by a stupid ass selfish prick is 1 too many in my book. A lil girl was killed by such a careless driver texting. Texting. WTF. One death is enough for me to want laws to make sure no more follow. They have tech out there so you don't have to hold your phone or text. Ppl need to get rid of this attitiude that nothing can happen to them. It can and It does.
I lost a nephew because his father's stupid, it can't happen to me attitude. I'm untouchable. Its really sad for all when ppl have to learn lesson the hard way. Sad for everone.
Because Ppl are in such a hurry:
Here we had this grandmother who struck another grandmother walking her grandchild. She knew she struck them but kept on going, she dragged the childs stroller more than a block before she stopped. She stopped to pull out the stroller from under her car, throw it to the side of the rode and drove home. The kid was dragged and feel out the stroller, he did not make it. The car driver(who had grandkids herself) claim that she did not see them and she did not know she struck anybody. The Bitch is rottening in jail now.
I myself have almost gotten hit when I was preggers and the drivers cuss me out. You have cars that need to make a turn, see that your about to cross the street and speed up so they can beat you. Then pissed off when they have screech to a halt, almost hitting you. Then they have the nerve to honk at you, constantly. One day I might be on the News because I did a Walking Tall move and took a baseball bat to someones car.
-
can you believe that woman *THREW ACID IN HER OWN FACE?!?!?!?*
how fucking insane is that!?!?!?!
-
??????? :-\ :-X :-[
why would she do a stupid ass thing like that?
-
15 minutes of fame? ::)
-
Okay am I missing a news story because I have yet to hear about a woman throwing acid in her own face?
As far as the driving issues... it's the same mentality that has people driving drunk, and it's essentially the same problem. If they were to kill themselves off I wouldn't bat an eye or shed a tear, but they never do. It's always someone else who suffers for their selfishness.
Oh sure they'll shed a tear, and if that guy HAD hit you Sinnnn he probably would have looked all remorseful when he told the judge you jumped out in front of his car... I don't even say it's my cynicism when I say I could have them put down without twitching... it's just making the rest of society safer.
-
really??? you people haven't heard the story about the acid? well...initially she told the police that another woman did it. now, come to find out, it was all a hoax and she did it to herself. it's been on the internet and on the news the past week...
http://abcnews.go.com/US/acid-attack-victim-bethany-storro-tells-police-faked/story?id=11658631
-
Oh, nope... here I've been keeping up with the MidEast and the results of the primaries. :P
-
Ummm we do live in other states and countries sweety. Not all new is universal. Ever heard the story where the judge denied this woman a protection order for her husband. This is what the judge told her, "I want to be 6'01'' but you can't have everything you want."
Few days later her ex- husband went to her job, poured kero on her and set her on fire. She survived but she is scarred for life. Now there are times that I think judges should be held accountable for some of the decisions they make.
@Janine
If he did hit me, he better hope I can't get up. Cause I would have laid there hoping he would get close to me so I could grab his ass..... ;D
-
I once read about a judge that suggested a rape victim get over it by going on holiday. The cold bastards don't let themselves get "influenced" by the pain of the victim because that's not recognized jurisprudence.
It's supposed to be such a noble profession, but at this point it's a fucking joke.
-
I have read about this woman here in the boulevard press (yellow press). Another evidence, that people are able to do even the strangest actions.
@ sinnnn and Janine: Sometimes it's so hard to understand when the judgement is spoken "on behalf of the people". I remember Iran, a young woman got acid in her face (this time it was real done and not a fake - since she is blind). The judgement: She was allowed to inject acid to the face of the asshole, too. And she did it.
-
What I can't stand is that the Judges will ask the criminal how much of a education he has had. WTF. My grandfather didn't finish middle school and he went to the navy, held a steady job for 40yrs and raised 6 kids. Everyone knows right from wrg and I mean everyone. If you hide your crime, its because you know its a crime. I can't stand that they try to give ppl an excuse for what horrible crap they deliver on others. Only way I can see someone not understanding, is if they was raised on a faraway island by monkies or fish. Everyone has a choose, if you rather steal to get quick money instead of flipping burgers, then you suffer what you brought on yourself. These judges these days are there just for the pay check(well the judges here anyway).
Now as for your judge Lover, I understand where he is coming from but I wouldn't have done that. That can start vigilante justice and you do have some ppl that are really innocent of the crime they are accused of. And you do have victims that really think that innocent person has done them a terrible wrg. One man here was in jail for 10yrs for a rape he didn't commit. He missed out on his kids growing up, and his kids really don't see him as a father. Now the woman did not lie, in her trama she picked out the guy that looked close to the one that raped her. She told the family and the man that she was truly sorry. They forgave her because they understood where she was coming from. If you take that Do unto others/eye for an eye, then alot of ppl are going to get hurt. Then they'll say , well the judge let that woman do it, why can't I.
-
I don't say it's correct - I just posted it as its close to the other ones.
What I wanted say, the judgements in Germany are spoken on behalf of the people. But very often it's not true. Of course, we have to make sure, do we want revenge, do we want deterrence or do we hope, we can change their mind.
I admit, for some crime I want revenge; for most of the crimes I hope to change a mind.
-
Judges should be held accountable for their decision,..we rely on them to make impartial and astute decisions in such matters.
Sad part, as Janine Dee has mentioned before, society has degenerated into into a mindless mass which assumes no responsibility for owning to an action. Take the new murder case in Kentucky as an example, where the defense is hanging its hat on caffine overdose as a defense. Voluntary drug abuse should never be allowed as a defense.
-
Didn't say you agreed Lover. lol. just said as for you Judge, I understood where he was coming from but I didn't agree with it. ;)
-
ummm...sweety...it was a national story...didn't happen in my back yard. it happened in washington.
-
ummm...cutie....because it was national still doesn't mean we all will hear it......Kisses. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
obviously ::)
-
Sinnnn got to it first. There are a lot of national stories that I miss. Another crazy person getting their own media circus... I'm glad I did.
I try to stay informed, but an individual assault gaining national attention? If anything I think that's a problem with the media... it was sensational so they hyped it. An individual assault like that should NOT have been a national story in my opinion.
As far as the judges/judiciary/legal system. While I do not support vigilante justice (I can't trust the public's intelligence.) I do believe in capital punishment, I do believe that there are crimes that warrant it.
Not as a deterrent, but simply as a punishment equal to the crime. It has to be truly horrific, but there are some acts you just forfeit your right to human consideration.
An example to show what I am talking about... another story that was hyped for it's horrific nature that I did catch was about a little girl who was kidnapped, assaulted, murdered (I think drowned) and disposed of in a suitcase.
The woman deliberately murdered a little girl... even life imprisonment is too lenient to me.
-
Babe I think all child molestors and rapist an murders of children deseve death. I have no sympathy for those who can inflict harm on someone so small. so harmless. They are a gift to be cherished, if you can't respect or take care of such a great gift you should keep your dick or your damn legs closed. They are to damn easy on these molestors. Justice says all the right words when they need our votes but when its time to put up, they shut up. Had one molestor go an killed a family and kidnapped the boy and girl. Only one survived. Repeat offenders being let loose pisses me off. Makes me think the judges need to go threw what that child went threw and maybe then they will think twice about letting a repeat offender off.
-
They would argue that if you let people judge with emotions then you get cases like that woman who put the wrong man behind bars for 10 years for rape. Their argument would be that only through the following of established rules can justice even be considered.
My counter would be that while that is all well and good the overwhelming focus on the accused needs SOME counterbalance.
A favorite example of mine is what they call "Fruit of the Poisoned Tree" what that says is evidence that was obtained in a way that violates the accused rights is inadmissible.
So if the police coerced a subject to tell them where to find a murder weapon that has the subjects fingerprints on it, that could be tossed out because the police found it in a way that breaks the rules. Mind you not that the evidence looks tampered with, just that it wasn't obtained properly.
Irrefutable evidence tossed out simply because the police either did wrong of their own, or made a simple f-ing mistake. It would be one thing if they simply charged the cop with crimes of his own, but the courts are willing to let violent criminals go free because their precious procedures weren't followed to the letter.
-
We may not forget, all rules are made to protect unguilty people. So if you sometimes read about obviously criminals coming free, just because an evidence wasn't found in the right way it's hard to understand.
But how many unguilty people ould have been arrested, if these rules are deleted? You in the States and most of all here in Western Europe are "proud" about free government under the law; that you are unguilty until they have the evidence; that (sometimes ;)) torture is forbidden.
I don't wanna finish that. Though it's very often (in the name of fighting against terror) softened today.
-
There is a website called "The Onion" it was parodying the news long before John Stewart. I remember finding an article on their archives about "The ACLU defends a mans right to burn down the ACLU."
The idea was that they were SO set to defend the mans civil liberties that they defended his right to commit arson on THEIR headquarters.
It's not gotten to that point because those who say "It's better 100 guilty men go free then 1 innocent man be convicted." can order themselves up police protection.
However the rest of us are left to those 100 and the recidivism rate.
100 to 1 is considered acceptable, one HUNDRED. If only half of them re-offend that still 50 crimes that could have been prevented.
Yes there is a chance that officials could abuse their powers to arrest and detain, but is this any better?
So the guy who assaults me doesn't have a badge? Is that supposed to make me feel better?
-
I'm not sure that I understand you Janine. Do you think, it's better to arrest unguilty people than to search for the criminals?
It's a stupid compare to say 100:1; those, who are saying this, know it. I don't know if "manslaughter argument" is the right term, but I hope you know what I mean.
You may not forget, each unguilty person arrested means, the guilty person is free and will go on!
And I am sure, it's easy to criticize government under the law; it's allowed to do in a free country. If you are living in a country, where it's forbidden or you even do not have these rights, you will change your mind.
-
No, the 100 to 1 ratio is a quote about how the American legal system is set up. The reason they have so many rights is because they would rather have a guilty man go free then an innocent man be imprisoned. It was even taken to the 100 to one extreme. It IS meant to be an extreme, but is also meant to show their feelings on the matter. They would truly have those 100 go free as long as 101 was innocent.
I'm not saying it's easy Lover, what I am trying to say is that nature moves to balance, and we should too. When a caffeine overdose is a viable defense I call that imbalanced.

I agree with balance. A cafffeine overdose is as silly as most of the arguments about bad parents or severe childhood.
Though it's a different; we are talking about balance in distribution now. I was talking about finding guilty people.
-
Finding guilty people is both fine and wonderful. The issue is that there is such a fear that they might not actually be guilty that the system believes it would be better to let a guilty person go free to be on the safe side.

I can't believe this guy is walking free -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikita_Fouganthine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikita_Fouganthine)

Crazy and unbelievable.

I'm not wondering why he's out. I'm wondering why he's breathing. I mean a list like that? Are people THAT opposed to capital punishment? An animal goes rabid we put it down so it can't hurt anyone else? How many will that psycho be allowed to kill?
-
Really, you got ppl that will ignore a human cry for help so they can rescue a animal. See no one really cares til it happens to them. You'll hear bout cancer victims, but you brush it off. Until a family member gets it and then we are fighting the good fight against the disease. If he is killing regular ppl, who well it get shrug off. But when he kills someone of means or a kid then thats when ppl open their mouth.
Some ppl just refuse to see things beyond their circle in life til it happens to them. These criminals will get theirs when they hurt the "wrong" ppl. Its sad really. I have notice so many ppl that are repeat offenders get away with so much. But rob a councilmember, or someone in his family. Someone of means. Then news pump up his criminal history and then everyone rallies to get stronger laws. Stronger justice. Sadly these rallies don't last long. In a way we let them free. If we don't fight when there is no news pumping up stories, if we don't fight before someone of "importance" get hurt, if we don't stand up and say something. Then yes ppl like that will go free.

There is no death sentence in either Sweden nor Finland, and life improsonment is not until you die just for an undetermined time. After 10 years you can plead to get the sentence changed, but the imprisonment has to be at least 18 years.
Another thing that really bothers me is that they are served better food than what I got in school :(

I know that European nations can and do often consider themselves more civilized then us here in the US. I know that their refusal of capital punishment is one of the things they will hang that superior hat on.
I also know that when civilization was first starting one of the key concepts was mutual defense.
Or in other words if you were on your own and a bear tried to eat you, you were on your own. People started forming villages, and later towns because of just that sort of threat... weaker creatures bending together to protect themselves against predators.
I see it as one of the keystones of civilization.
Yet now it's "civilized" to abandon that mutual protection and let the predators run amok.
Not only will they not be put to death, but "life" isn't "life" it's "We'll allow a whole new generation of victims to reach the age of majority (18 here in the States) and then let you out and hope you've mended your ways."
Sinnnn sweetie, while I can't remember the case I remember there was a family of a missing child who used photoshop on the picture of their missing child to make them more photogenic, what's sad is I don't blame them one damn bit. It's that same mechanism, the cute kid is more important, and people get more worked up to find them.
There are so many kids in the Missing and Exploited Children's database, but we hear more about the latest one adopted by Angelina Joile.
I don't know who here has seen "A time to kill" but Samuel Jackson's character's little girl was raped, and he cut the rapists down with an M-16 after they got off. His lawyer managed to get him off by describing the brutality of the attack and then finished with the line "Now imagine she was white."
It was fiction, but a fictional portrayal of something all too real.
The reason *I* still get worked up is because I make sure I still get worked up. It is SO much easier to let go, just go numb and change the channel.
Apathy is easy, empathy is agonizing.
-
I don't blame the parents one bit. Get your kid back whatever way possible. Like the movie Taken, he went threw awhole bunch of mfs to get his daughter back. Its the image that everybody go for an so many kids get lost. I have to applaud the detectives that don't give up on the lost causes. Its so few of them that really care, that didn't let the job bring them down. If a hooker walks in an say her child went missing, first thing they will say is, she must have runaway and get back to us in 24 hrs. When they know that 24hrs for a child is precious time that can't be waste in looking for them. Its like organ donarship back in the day, when it was the most " important" ppl that would get it.(not finished making my whole point but hope you see where I am trying to say)
-
I get you Sweetie, and it's true. Police are overworked, underpaid, unappreciated doing a job that people only give at best vocal support that often vanishes when they are the ones doing wrong. (Then the police are fascists.) The officers are exposed to society at it's worst and then given a long list of rules that even the lawyers that would get them thrown off the force can't memorize and told they could get thrown off the force for violating even one.
And that's for the good ones.
There are also a sadly good sized number that consider the badge an excuse to take their frustrations out on others.
Then both the good and the bad can put in months and even years to take some predator down... only to have some sanctimonious black-robed bastard let the monster walk because of some legal loophole?
Especially when said monster has a record of the same damn crime?
I applaud the officers who can still care after all that.
What makes it even worse is there are the Susan Smith's out there who can and do vanish their own kids. Making a necessary part of any investigation clearing the parents.
Yeah... it would be easier to not care. So while I still rant and rave on some level I can get the desire to shut off, to try and make it so that pain can't get to you.
-
I feel for the police officers. I have ran into some that just make the good ones look bad. Its sad really. You got so many good ppl who take a job that puts their life at risk for the sake of others. What happens, they get torn down by ppl that are suppose to help them protect us. You got people screaming why aren't the cops doing anything. My cousin was shot and the cops are not doing anything.
There was an incident that was caught on tape. Young guy was running an shooting some young teen, in broad daylight, down the street. Street full of ppl. Little girl was shot. The young teen was killed. There was more than twenty ppl on that street. When the cops went to look for witnesses, no one saw anything. It pisses me off when they bitch about the crime in their neighborhood and how the cops aren't doing anything. Well if you live by the I'm no Snitch code, then yes dummies your neighborhood will be flooded by crime.
But also we had a cop who basicly was like a cop mob boss. Ppl was scared shitless of him. To this day they are trying to cover up his shit. This mentality where cops protect there own should go only so far. You got cops risking their lives every single day. They don't know what will happen to them on a routine traffic stop. They would end up going to bat for these corrupt cops. I think deep down inside they just can't believe someone would tarnish the badge they so proudly wear.
I understand cutting oneself off from tragedies. You can only take so much. Especially when you wish you could have done something. But I think as a whole, we been cutting ourselves off to damn much. You got ppl that will see a crime take place and watch that shit, like its a sports event. Or they will see a body being hauled off to the morgue and ppl will be jumping up and down wanting to see. Not that they care, but they just want something to tell their friends later. We arew getting use to to much bad shit. The only time I saw real emotion from a newman was 9/11. The one and only time the real emothion besides laughter crossed their faces.
-
As far as the cops, I also believe part of the sticking up for other cops is that other cops are the only ones they can truly rely on.
The public? If they aren't screaming that the cops aren't doing anything then they are living the Don't Snitch code.
The politicians? Depends on the polls. If they think it will help their reelection they will find a cop that's questionable enough (and as an example right now there is a Hispanic community in an uproar because police shot a man threatening them with a knife) to hang in the public square as a example to show they are tough on police corruption.
So I can understand how even the good ones may say "He's a scumbag, but he's still one of us."
-
Having absolute faith that someone has your back is critical, but can never excuse a misdirection of justice. Never more apparent than locally when a sheriff was involved in a fatal boating accident, no blood level testing was done on him, he was bundled up whisked away unhurt, while the victims were taken to emergency, there the testing was mandatory. The fact they found alcohol in the victims blood put them at fault, serious mis-justice and tore any public sentiment of trust.
When apathy rules,...anarchy prevails. The code of silence whether it is in the ghetto or in the ranks of law enforcement is an issue. Social responsibility extends extends beyond the ranks of the immediate.
So no matter how painful, do not lose your empathy for that which surrounds us. It may be just for children, the aged,...or if fortunate enough all who work in this world. All you can do is take it case by case, and if someone betrays that, (ie...the acid lady) hold them alone to the subjugation of the apathy.
-
I live in the county. An the code of silence rein supreme. The county is worst than the city with that rules. You find more of the creepies their because the neighbors stick their head in the sand. I hear no evil, (but then sure can speak it), I see no evil.
-
It's not an excuse, it's an indictment. Of them, of us, of the whole system. Yes there is a code of silence, but there also tends to be a presumption of guilt in far too many cases. Like that case earlier where people seem to figure the police lives were only sorta threatened by the knife, so their using their guns was wrong. Or the fact that a resisting suspect can BE resisting, and still claim excessive force?
But yes, it is truly a case by case sort of thing. I just wish logic could rule more, like that case of Bear's where the Sheriff's blood was not tested. I mean any toddler could tell you that you checkout everyone. Or in that incident I mentioned with the knife wielder... if I have a gun and someone comes at me with a knife, I WILL shoot them.
The problem is that looking back through history official legal systems have only been marginally concerned with justice. The primary difference between now and 1000 years ago is that there isn't an official "ruling class". So know it's all about favors and back scratching and high priced lawyers, but sadly is the same mechanic at work.

This thread needs to be brought back to life!
Boredom on this rainy covid infested Florida day found me looking for something other than the newest corruption-Trump-scandal to read with my morning coffee. I tried to read Bolton's extremely badly written book but it was too hard to follow with coffee and oh so much worse without.
I have not read most of the posts here but most of those I did read had my fingers wanting to quote and reply. Too many posts for one day in one thread so forgive a mash up reply.
First of all working in Retail sucks. I did it for a while in high school. In those days customer service training taught you that the customer was always right. This mind set, unfortunately for retailers, provided the customer with more than the buying power they deservedly had. It gave them the right to abuse sales clerks in any way they wished. Now that I am on the other side of the cashiers register the rules have changed. Of course. And it seems the customer is never right. But working in retail still sucks. I feel for those retailers having to deal with inconsiderate customers who refuse to wear a mask or be respectful and think the clerk should kiss their ass for the sale.
Someone said that Europeans consider themselves to be more civilized than the USA. Yes they do think that. And they are right. They are more compassionate. They are more civilized in every definitive meaning of the word. And I say that as an American who has traveled to Europe more than a few times. I can say that at this point in American history I would gladly live in the UK, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Greece or Canada than in these United States that used to be great just a short 4 years ago.
As for the justice system in this country?? It's a joke if you have money but I think that is probably true in any corrupt system. If you are of color it is a nightmare and you are rarely out of the system once caught up in it. They make too much money in fines etc to ever let you go. I've never had the prison experience myself but I know many who have and I could share many a story but I will share just one. My cousin was murdered by her estranged husband. She sat in a car, that her mother had just stepped out of to greet her husband. My Aunt and Uncle stood at the front of the car as they watched their son-in-law slip into the car and blow their daughters head away as she sat next to her grandmother. My Aunt started to scream and he shot at her as he slipped back out of the car. Thankfully he missed. Thankfully the neighbors having seen his car parked in the street had called the police and they arrived on the seen as the murderer ran from the garage. He was arrested covered in blood and holding the gun. Yet he was released on bail that night since it was Christmas Eve. He ran of course. Out of state to Florida where he dyed his hair and stayed with friends. They caught him eventually and at trial he stood and threatened each member of his dead wife's family. Told us he would get us all when he got out. They gave him life. HA. Joke. He is out now having served his term they say. But he lives and breathes and walks amongst us now. My Aunt lives in fear everyday. ME? I pray he comes for me. I am armed and ready to serve him the justice the law should have taken care of.
As for cops? As in every profession there are good ones and bad ones. I have encountered both but I am a white woman so get treated completely different than a black male would be treated. The problem is that the cops are allowed to investigate themselves so little gets done to correct any problems. This gives bad cops the ability to do as they please. That and the code of silence against each other has to change. If a good cop sees a bad cop breaking the law they should be required to report it not shame them for doing the right thing.
