Title: Report misuse button
Post by: bouli on July 30, 2010, 11:07:55 AM
I only just discovered the new "Report misuse" button, an exclamation mark in the upper right corner of the chat log. It seems they decided it was time for us to report one another if someone appears to promote other sites or being young.
This might be a good idea in theory, but we'd better watch out as it could easily be abused. I really hope the team uses common sense going through the chat logs and everything.

I must admit I didn't see it either, but then again I haven't been on in awhile.

Bouli, good you are looking at the details. I noticed it this morning after someminutes of chatting and ... I thought this is a hint that there is a chat history :D

I think its a very good idea. Is it also a sign, the A-Team is reading the forum and listening to it? Or did they recognize the problems by themselves and want to do something against it? No matter, it's good to see, they don't accept anything just to make money.
Maybe they should give a sign (e.g. after login? Or a hint before you login, similar to the update? I belive, many members don't notice it, if they don't read this thread.

The question I ask, what are they going to do with this info?
Though I don't believe to get an answer...
Hey A-Team, if I report a misuse, what is the next step?

noticed it yesterday for the first time i think.  figured i'd let someone else point it out though  :P

yeah i agree with it possibly being abused by people...people who get mad at you for not inviting them or whatever.
and i also agree that it's too close to the window expansion icon...though clicking the exclamation mark does not automatically report an abuse...there are a few reasons inside the opened box as to what kind of abuse you are reporting.

If I'm to be completely honest I think this might be a reaction to previous posts about the legal issues with minors among the users. How they will try to handle these reports are beyond me though.
Quite a few people are here to play out fantasies with them being someone they're not. No matter if this means they pretend to be a nurse, relative, prostitute, minor or rapist. I bet there will be quite a few reports about what fully legit adults pretend to be, not what they are.
To make sure we're really dealing with other adults some kind of verification system needs to be added and I for one am not really comfortable in giving out my ID to sites like these. (I think we lifted that discussion a few months back.)

These are delicate issues. Maintaining the freedom and anonymity while making sure nothing illegal is going on.

And annotations in the profile could really solve it quite easily. While I can certainly agree on the id issues, there is a need to strike a balance between the rights of the individual and the needs of the group. So while putting in "Age:"Legal, but for RP let's say..." is a fair compromise.

I agree with bouli and all the others who don't want to give the ID. Why? It's not only this special kind of game. It's also because the owner doesn't show himself. There is no "about" or "company details". We only know two names, Tom and Rab. Are they two persons? Are they real persons?
If you search for AChat you will find, the server are placed in Dallas and the company is registered in Hungary by Ian Brenner.

You also will see there is a similar game, I call it AChat light http://www.ouronlinedating.com/ (http://www.ouronlinedating.com/)

I do not say it's against the law (though in Germnay it is, as you must have an about-page) and it's not important for me; but an owner/company, who doesn't sho himself is not allowed to get my ID.

I did not know that, but it's a damn good point. A sort of "Not showing you mine if you're not showing me yours kind of thing."
