I recently had a conversation with a member and we discussed the heavy loss of losing our parents who guided us through life and then the emptiness when they are not there anymore...
It reminded me of a poem, I wrote after I lost my mom in those dark times shortly afterwards... it's very personal and from the heart ... so be warned.. :-*
Our Special Message.
I had a dream, a wonderful dream one night,
Of Mom and Dad dancing, in the pure moonlight.
Both were dressed for this heavenly ball,
Guests of honour, looking good and tall.
Mom smiled at Dad, and, gave him her arm,

Macavity's a Mystery Cat: he's called the Hidden Paw—
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law.
He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair:
For when they reach the scene of crime—Macavity's not there!
Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity.
His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare,
And when you reach the scene of crime—Macavity's not there!
You may seek him in the basement, you may look up in the air—
But I tell you once and once again, Macavity's not there!
Macavity's a ginger cat, he's very tall and thin;
You would know him if you saw him, for his eyes are sunken in.
His brow is deeply lined with thought, his head is highly domed;
His coat is dusty from neglect, his whiskers are uncombed.
He sways his head from side to side, with movements like a snake;
And when you think he's half asleep, he's always wide awake.
Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,

RIDE
I was in the winter of my life, and the men I met along the road were my only summer.
At night I fell asleep with visions of myself, dancing and laughing and crying with them.
Three years down the line of being on an endless world tour, and my memories of them were the only things that sustained me, and my only real happy times.
I was a singer - not a very popular one,
I once had dreams of becoming a beautiful poet, but upon an unfortunate series of events saw those dreams dashed and divided like a million stars in the night sky that I wished on over and over again, sparkling and broken.
But I didn't really mind because I knew that it takes getting everything you ever wanted, and then losing it to know what true freedom is.
When the people I used to know found out what I had been doing, how I'd been living, they asked me why - but there's no use in talking to people who have home.
They have no idea what it's like to seek safety in other people - for home to be wherever you lay your head.
I was always an unusual girl.
My mother told me I had a chameleon soul, no moral compass pointing due north, no fixed personality; just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean...
And if I said I didn't plan for it to turn out this way I'd be lying...
Because I was born to be the other woman.
Who belonged to no one, who belonged to everyone.
Who had nothing, who wanted everything, with a fire for every experience and an obsession for freedom that terrified me to the point that I couldn't even talk about it, and pushed me to a nomadic point of madness that both dazzled and dizzied me.

A Letter To You
I've written a letter,
That I want to send to you,
Saying how I feel,
But it was very hard to do.
It took a long time,
To say what I wanted to say,
I wasted paper,
Forever throwing the mistakes away.
After weeks of trying,
I finally got the words out,
But now I'm unsure,
I'm filled with regret and doubt.
How will you react,
I wonder what you will say?
Should I send this letter,
Or should I just throw it away?
I've expresed my feelings,

Explained things properly,
And let my honesty show.

Aha - well, I'm not surprised to hear that - that's fantastic for her!
There are so many writing competitions etc for young people (i'm sure you know it anyway), it's a great way to maintain interest and keep developing writing skills, and maybe even get more published... but of course it should be done for the enjoyment, satisfaction and pleasure of it first and foremost. Hope she keeps up with it.

Oh - well, you have to follow your passions and your interests, but I hope she doesn't focus entirely on one and not the other... a lot of the best scientists are often very literate and good writers too - especially those that are good at explaining their ideas to a lay readership.

Goodbye my friend
It was twenty years ago, when we have met at work. From the first moment, we have been friends.
You, a few years older older, more experienced and talkative and I, the younger one, also talkative and still learning.
We both were alpha-guys. But we never argued. We discussed, we talked and in the end, we laughed together.
We liked the same things, we shared the same sense of humour and we both loved new, modern technology.
We shared the room when we were on a trip with other guys, going to bed last and getting up first.
We discovered some cities in Europe and had fun, wherever we have been. We always did the best of everything.
When I'm at work, I still see you sitting on your chair. But you don't talk anymore. We cannot work together anymore.
We won't go out and have fun anymore, though our next trip already was planned. You are on your own journey now.
You didn't suffer. The death came suddenly and fast. That's the only comfort I have.
Memories will stay forever. Memories - that's all I still have now. You are gone. You have left this planet, unexpected and much too soon.
We couldn't say bye - our last words have been "See you, enjoy your day".

A squirrel scurries through the forest.
He moves here, he moves there,

Not a poem, just a scribble, from an observation of a dreamer...
I stand on the platform, as I do every morning, waiting for the train to take me into the city and to work. As I cast my eyes around a magnificent sight greets me. The rising sun illuminates the cotton wool clouds turning them a stunning colour, that seems to be both orange and pink. For a moment, even though I'm awake, I dream of magical kingdoms riding upon the clouds.
Then my eyes look upon my fellow travellers; engrossed in their phones and newspapers. I realise then, that I am the only person to notice the magical show that nature has put on display.
With a melancholy heart, I wonder...are there really so few dreamers left in the world...?

You must also include an Achat component in the story or poem - From the Achat shop, a background, an outfit or a room. It will need to be described in enough detail for the reader to recognise it.
They are quite fun trying to find for the reader.
The best ones for me are in Jayc's Adraste's Gift in Contest 6. Although you only need one component, the way he incorporates 3 - the Skeletons ; Flaming Skull and Flaming dragon backgrounds is quite ingenious. He has great inventive skill and imagination. See the below quote.

I know Andrea has already submitted her story, what seems like ages ago, no procrastinating for that woman. Me on the other hand, it's not I "like" to procrastinate, just seems to work out that way. I always seem to meet all my deadlines, I just don't meet them "early". *giggles* I guess part of me needs the "pressure", tends to "motivate" me. Yes, I am writing, it is a "work-in-process", as I struggle with every word. Story writing, for me, is a form of masochistic torture, a blend of frustration and anxiety with the promise of self realization and inner release.
