Okay, update, the guy says he didn't receive the refund(s) but I'm still missing the money

The first thing is that at least a few of us can't view full profiles when clicking on avatars in the streets.
The second is that I was acting as a working girl and when it looked like the guy wasn't paying, I left. I then found he did send the gift so I tried to return it. It said the transaction was unsuccessful. I tried 2 more times, same result.
Therefore I tried shutting down the game and rebooting it. it turns out all 3 transactions did go through so all the cash is gone for all 3.
Why did I get the unsuccessful message?
