Michael Joseph Porcaro, original bass player from Toto, died on March 15. He retired from touring in 2007 as a result of being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Omg - that is so sad. I have met people with ALS and if any disease deserves the name 'evil' this is it (altho I know thats just human feelings). It is so difficult to just ... be with ... that such diseases can erupt and put your life in a big black hole.

I remember listening a lot to Toto when I was in school, a classmate borrowed me a tape, and since then I've occasionally listened and always felt that it was music that made me feel warm and upbeat and sometimes joyful. Mike contribbed to all that, bless him. It wont be the same listening to Toto again, although the heart of that music can never die.
