He is my favorite modern author for sure, rest in peace, Sir Terry.

“Coffee is a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to your older self.”  Have used this since I first read Thud!  Wish he had had a few less if his logic is true.

Sir Terry Pratchett, fantasy author and creator of the Discworld series, has died aged 66, eight years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Sir Terry wrote more than 70 books during his career and completed his final book last summer.

He “enriched the planet like few before him” and through Discworld satirised the world “with great skill, enormous humour and constant .

Sir Terence David John “Terry” Pratchett, OBE (28 April 1948 – 12 March 2015) was an English author of fantasy novels, especially comical works. He is best known for his Discworld series of about 40 volumes. Pratchett's first novel, The Carpet People, was published in 1971, and since his first Discworld novel, The Colour of Magic, was published in 1983, he wrote two books a year on average. His 2011 Discworld novel Snuff was at the time of its release the third-fastest-selling hardback adult-audience novel since records began in the UK, selling 55,000 copies in the first three days.

Pratchett was the UK's best-selling author of the 1990s, and has sold more than 85 million books worldwide in 37 languages. He is currently the second most-read writer in the UK, and seventh most-read non-US author in the US.

Pratchett was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 and was knighted for services to literature in the 2009 New Year Honours. In 2001 he won the annual Carnegie Medal for The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents, the first Discworld book marketed for children. He received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2010.

In December 2007, Pratchett announced that he was suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's disease.  He later made a substantial public donation to the Alzheimer's Research Trust, and filmed a television programme chronicling his experiences with the disease for the BBC. Pratchett died on 12 March 2015, aged 66.

“…no-one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away… The span of someone's life, they say, is only the core of their actual existence.”
    ― Terry Pratchett, Reaper Man

“That's not fair, you know. If we knew when we were going to die, people would lead better lives.”

IF PEOPLE KNEW WHEN THEY WERE GOING TO DIE, I THINK THEY PROBABLY WOULDN'T LIVE AT ALL.”
    ― Terry Pratchett

“Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.”

“If you have enough book space, I don't want to talk to you.”

“Just erotic. Nothing kinky. It's the difference between using a feather and using a chicken.”
    — Terry Pratchett (Eric (Discworld, #9))

Omg – that is so sad. I have met people with ALS and if any disease deserves the name 'evil' this is it (altho I know thats just human feelings). It is so difficult to just … be with … that such diseases can erupt and put your life in a big black hole.

I remember listening a lot to Toto when I was in school, a classmate borrowed me a tape, and since then I've occasionally listened and always felt that it was music that made me feel warm and upbeat and sometimes joyful. Mike contribbed to all that, bless him. It wont be the same listening to Toto again, although the heart of that music can never die.

    RIP

    Sad way to go. Rip.

Got that opening riff from Sweet Home in my head now. Gotta be one of the best and most distinctive riffs in rock.
