The Thrill is gone – R.I.P. B.B. King

The ‘King of the Blues’ guitarist and singer, BB King, has died aged 89

King, known for his hits Lucille, Sweet Black Angel and Rock Me Baby, died in his sleep in Las Vegas.

Born in Mississippi, King began performing in the 1940s. He went on to influence a generation of musicians, working with Eric Clapton and U2.
Once ranked as the third greatest guitarist of all time, he had been suffering ill health in recent months.

He was recently taken to hospital with a diabetes-related illness.

A former farmhand, King was awarded his 15th Grammy award in 2009 for his album One Kind Favor.
He was also inducted into both the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Rolling Stone magazine placed him behind only Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman in its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

Until recently, King performed in at least 100 concerts a year.

Mr. King has allowed us his fans in on a very sad and emotional part of his life. The very talented blues singer and musician has tweeted that he is in care of hospice in his Las Vegas home. In case you do not know what hospice is; here is the definition as follows…

Hospice care: Care designed to give supportive care to people in the final phase of a terminal illness and focus on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure. The goal is to enable patients to be comfortable and free of pain, so that they live each day as fully as possible. Aggressive methods of pain control may be used. Hospice programs generally are home-based, but they sometimes provide services away from home — in freestanding facilities, in nursing homes, or within hospitals. The philosophy of hospice is to provide support for the patient's emotional, social, and spiritual needs as well as medical symptoms as part of treating the whole person.

    His story continues…
*It’s never a good thing to hear that someone is in hospice care. The reality is that the word/phrase is almost always associated with the final days of life.

Unfortunately that’s the word that blues legend B.B. King himself is using to refer to his current medical situation .

On Friday, the 89-year-old musician posted thank yous to fans on his official website for well-wishes and prayers.

According to CNN, on Thursday, officer Jesse Roybal of the Las Vegas Police Dept. Office said an ambulance was summoned to King’s address and he was hospitalized following what was characterized as a dispute over medical care.

On Friday we reported that King’s daughter believes he is being abused … and called police on Thursday to settle a dispute over whether he needed to be hospitalized.

Via TMZ we learned that there’s a huge battle over B.B.’s care — between his daughter Patty King and his longtime manager Laverne Toney. Patty, who lives with her father in Las Vegas … tells us she wanted to take him to the hospital because his urine was orange and he wasn’t eating.

She claims Toney — who has power of attorney over B.B. — refused, so Patty called police. Responding officers called in paramedics, who agreed B.B. needed to be checked out by doctors.

The hospitalization was the second in a month for King, who was diagnosed with diabetes decades ago.

Prayers and well wishes for this legend in his own lifetime.

Whenever his time comes – and let's hope and pray that ain't for a while yet – but whenever it is… what a legacy he's already created and will leave behind.

    When the night has come
    And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

The Angels did stand by you and when you grew tired, they helped you to heaven. We are a poorer earth for having lost you.  Thank you for the music you gave and left behind. We will listen to it for generations to come.

    RIP  BEN  E  KING.  xxxx
