I am no expert and can't offer any service in that regard but I have had fulfilling, albeit temporary, relationships with others in at least 16 different languages (including English) in the few months that I have been here, by using Google translate.
I was berated by two different people because they insisted that I must be Romanian, in the first instance, and Swedish in the second.
I lived in Montreal so I do know French to a certain extent and I have had a course in Bulgarian. Both have helped me with translations for other languages and the latter certainly helps with understanding other Cyrillic alphabet based languages (although it would be even better if we could type in Cyrillic, phonetics don't do it for me as I am better with the written language).
I sometimes have problems keeping up with the action while doing translation and I often get gender wrong, which can be embarrassing but, generally, I think that it has certainly improved how people see me, which is one of the critical things in establishing any relationship.
