USE the numerical keys on the right of your keyboard, not the numbers across the top.

Thought this little gem might come in handy for achat forum posters

Yes, I discovered early that alt+0163 gives the £ sign as it was missing from my keyboard.

One thing to remember is that you have to use the numeric keypad, not the numbers along the top.
