The couple  you posted in the second pic, is not familiar to us, although we know the Iceberg quite well.

I'm not sure whether to be flattered or creeped out!

@ Whimsey… now why would you delete your stalking post!

    An Amazing Feat
    JULY 24 2012

Chris Moon, who lost his right leg and hand in a land mine explosion in the mid-nineties, became the first amputee to attempt AND the first to finish the 135 mile Badwater Ultramarathon in Death Valley. This is absolutely one of the most gruelling races in the world and took him almost 42 hours to complete!!

Here is a quick description of the race. (courtesy of Wikipedia)

“The Badwater Ultramarathon describes itself as “the world’s toughest foot race”. It is a 135-mile (217 km) course starting at 282 feet (86 m)[1] below sea level in the Badwater Basin, in California’s Death Valley, and ending at an elevation of 8360 feet (2548 m) at Whitney Portal, the trailhead to Mount Whitney. It takes place annually in mid-July, when the weather conditions are most extreme and temperatures over 120 °F (49 °C), even in the shade, are not uncommon. Consequently, very few people—even among ultramarathoners—are capable of finishing this gruelling race.”

The 50 year old, who is now a motivational speaker, completed the London marathon less than a year after his accident and has since travelled all over the world competing in some of the toughest races on earth. In 2010 he ran more than 36 miles a day for 30 straight days and covered over a 1000 miles!

He was asked before the Badwater race what his motivation was going in.

“I want to challenge the concept of limitation.”
“I want to overcome physical challenges and show that I have not been weakened by the unfortunate things that sometimes happen.”

Chris Moon is an incredibly inspiring human being and proves that we can overcome any obstacle or challenge that life throws our way!
