I want to offer my prayers and convey my sympathy and profound condolences to the families of the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. I hope that our achat friends from there (and I know there are at least a few) are safe and tell them that they are in our thoughts.

        Typhoon Haiyan

Sending similar prayers and God Speed for loved ones, family and friends to be united once more.

It seems over a million people have been affected in the Philippines. Around 10,000 people may have died in just one area of the Philippines hit by Typhoon Haiyan, according to officials.
One of the worst storms on record, it destroyed homes, schools and an airport in the eastern city of Tacloban.
Neighbouring Samar island was also badly affected, with reports of 300 people dead and 2,000 missing.
The Philippine government has so far only confirmed the deaths of 151 people throughout the country, but hundreds of thousands have been displaced.

        Thinking of you. xxx

Offering my prayers to the families of the victims…

              I've just found this:

9 Ways to Help Victims of Typhoon Haiyan
Typhoon Haiyan ripped through the Philippines on Friday, causing a 20-foot rise in sea waters and packing winds of up to 147 miles per hour. Authorities are calling it one the country's worst natural disasters on record.

More than 10,000 people are believed to be dead in the city of Tacloban alone, with death tolls continuing to rise, according to the AP. While the eastern island of Leyte was hit hardest, there was also extensive damage to roads and houses on neighboring islands. Around 4 million people were affected by the typhoon.

Rescue and relief efforts are underway, with many organizations mobilizing teams on the ground to get victims access to clean water, medical supplies and food. If you want to help, consider making online donations.

We've compiled a list of nine organizations to which you can contribute, below:

The United Nations World Food Programme: The WFP has set up an online donation page that will help rush food and resources to the regions affected.

The Philippine Red Cross: Donations will help mobilize teams on the ground with rescue and relief efforts.

UNICEF: Donations will help children gain access to medical supplies and clean drinking water. “Safe drinking water can be impossible to find after such a massive natural disaster. And without it, a child will drink whatever water she can find, no matter how dirty or diseased. That drink can quickly lead to diarrhea, disease and death,” UNICEF president Caryl M. Stern said.

World Vision: World Vision is working to get food and resources to those in evacuation shelters.

Catholic Relief Services: CRS is helping with the storm's aftermath by getting supplies and staff into the area.

Salvation Army: Donate online for the Salvation Army's relief efforts, or text TYPHOON to 80888 to immediately donate $10.

Save the Children: Donations will help children and families in the Philippines, Laos and Vietnam. Ten percent of every donation will go toward preparing for any future disasters in the area.

Habitat for Humanity: Donations will help create shelter-repair kits for families rebuilding their homes.

GlobalMedic: The Canadian organization is working to get clean water to victims.

Having gone through something similar last year (tho not nearly to the extent of Haiyan), I would ask everyone here to make a donation via one of the organizations that Marilyn has listed.  Even if it's just a dollar (or the equivalent in your country) it will help someone.  That dollar may be the one that makes a difference.

If you have an facebook account, you can easily donate. Look at the top of the website, you just have to click, choose how to pay (eg paypal) and you donate 10 Euro (13 USD) – not much but each amount is wonderful.

Hugh Jackman ‘was treated for skin cancer’

I’ve just found out this new. :-[
As I know that we’ve got several fans of Hugh Jackman (Stone in particular), I’m sharing this:

                                _71271752_71271751.jpg

Hugh Jackman said his wife had urged him to get his nose checked.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman says he has been treated for skin cancer after seeking advice for a mark on his nose.

The star of Wolverine posted an image of his face with a bandage on his nose on his Instagram account and wrote: “Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked.”

He said he had been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma (BCC).

BCC usually develops on skin exposed to the sun, and accounts for about 75% of skin cancers.

Hugh Jackman, who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for his performance as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, said his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, had told him to seek medical advice.

“Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right!”

He did not say when he was diagnosed or what treatment he received, but said that anyone with concerns should seek medical advice.

“Please don’t be foolish like me,” he wrote. “Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”

BCC produces cancerous cells on the surface of the skin. Surgery is the main treatment. If left untreated, it rarely spreads to other parts of the body, but it can damage or disfigure surrounding tissue.
