Liabale for anti-virus problems
Since a few days I can't start AChat because my anti-virus sees the program as a Trojan Horse. I've been in contact with the manufacturer of the anti-virus software (McAfee) as well as the A-team ( I need BA to fix the problem…lol) to learn how to solve the problem. Their solution is: turn of the anti-virus in order to play. Whcih means I have to unprotect my pc in order to play a game I pay for.
That raises the following question. Who should take responsibility in fixing this problem?
Is it the manufacturer of the anti-virus software because they should include this program in their software?
Is it AChat for appareantly writing their program in such a way it is picked up as a Trojan Horse?
Is it me for choosing a certain brand of anti-virus software?

Are there any legal arguements for either of the three statements? I'd like to read your opnions/knowledge

tia Tightfit

here is my answer:
AChat is clean, and doesn't intend to do any harmful thing on the computer. We don't know what McAfee's secret heuristic detection makes, so we can only try to solve the problem. McAfee probably doesn't like programs, which download files from the internet. That means we should stop making automatic upgrades in the way we do. If we could, we would solve the problem quickly. But without McAffe's help it is not so very easy. We have to find new ways making upgrades, and hoping that the secret heuristic detection will allow to run it.
Our solution at the moment: keep McAfee running on your computer, the new full version will work even if the version updater will be deleted. As we make new full version from time to time, you can keep up to date your AChat by reinstalling it once in the month.
We use also Kaspersky, Norton, AVG, NOD32 and also Avast, all they can live with AChat without problems.
McAfee not only detects FALSE, deletes without question, but neither give you the possibility to make exception, if you now, that you can trust a program. I don't think we should excuse ourselves even better.Rgeards,

I'm not pointing fingers here. I don't want to blame anyone. I'm just being confronted with a problem that is not easily solved and was curious on how a thing like this is done. I taste from your words a little that in fact, as a programmer, trying to satisfie your customers, have to develop your software in such a way it will pass by any virus detection program without a hitch. And since they are secret protocols, you have to hope for a clue from them on how to make it different? Sounds pretty frustrating to me.
And trust me, I do hate the fact I can't control on what to trust and what not to trust on my pc. McAfee dictates and as owner of my pc, I can't tell otherwise. Would be a big influence on my decision of choosing different software next timeTightfit

October 7, 2010 at 9:46 am #43240Janine DeeParticipantAVG is good, I personally like Avast after AVG decided Malware Bytes was itself Malware, but I will agree 100% that Norton and McAfee are just bad programs. I've tried both at one point or another and was profoundly dissatisfied.
October 7, 2010 at 4:09 pm #43242TightFit74ParticipantSo far never had trouble with McAfee before and I'm not really a shopper. If a good friend suggest something… Unfortunately I just bought a 2 year subscription to McAfee and I hate the fact that I can't be in control of the content on my pc. I also feel that the efforts of McAfee helping me, weren't to great. The short and simple answer was: shut down mcafee if you want to play this game. That's not customer service in my book…. Then again, I would probably not be throwing away money if AVG is free… MIght give it a shot… Thanks for the tips!
October 7, 2010 at 4:20 pm #43243LoverParticipantYou notice, you will have a lot of fun here, but also are learning something for your life 😉
AChat is loving, laughing and learning 😀
(By the way, these words especially are for a very special person)October 7, 2010 at 4:24 pm #43244TightFit74ParticipantI have learned, especially after experiencing the general chat, which was the main reason for me to start posting on the forum, that there is a real community and people (some of them, not including the rude, the crude and the downright nasty) ones) are very willing to help, have an open mind and know how to express themselves verbally. I really love that and I am happy to be part of it. Besides the game, I spend as much and maybe even more on the forum. You all welcomed me and made me feel taken seriously. That's a great asset to my life. At least, that's how I feel…
October 7, 2010 at 4:28 pm #43245LoverParticipantYou're right. I also spend much time here in this forum. After I have done my work Il read the new postings here – almost feeling I'm coming home to my familiy…
October 7, 2010 at 4:32 pm #43246TightFit74ParticipantThe same names keep coming up, I look out for their reactions (yours too) and usually like what I read. It does have a sense of familiarity, friendship and warmth
October 7, 2010 at 6:20 pm #43247AderaParticipantI agree with you. This forum makes Achat itself alot better as you make friends and ocassionaly something more :P.
October 7, 2010 at 6:48 pm #43248TightFit74ParticipantThere's more to the game that meets the eye. If you're willing to take the time to investigate. So many people are for the quick thrill and goi into oblivion after a while. Others take it more seriously and eachother and they form the community
October 7, 2010 at 10:16 pm #43241Janine DeeParticipantThe irony is that I am on here MUCH more then AChat itself. I’m going to keep AChat as almost more a partner to this then the other way around.
😛
October 7, 2010 at 11:05 pm #43237AderaParticipantI can check the forum with my phone everywhere so I'm on the forum more too. Starting the client requires privacy… atleast for me.
October 8, 2010 at 1:01 pm #43235JennyTParticipant“AChat sofware is guaranteed 100% Virus free … Virtual STD’s however are your own problem” 😛
