I still prefer closeups to work better the texture. I've got few experience with 3d objects, but I'm able to modify them. I load a model that comes with the program and then shape it and work on the textures (using PS). The program gives me a reference – 30% of the outcome comes from there; and the other 70% it's work made using PS.
Here's an example. The last shot it's what the program gives me. Then I photoshop it to look (or not) more realistic.
I do this when I've got some free time. It's more like a hobby and what I really enjoy doing is the last step (Photoshop). These pieces that I've been posting are simple, without clothes nor accessories, but I haven't been having time for more.
On the 1st and 2nd images you've got the 3d objects without texture. Then I make the texture using Photoshop (a bit like achat – with maps, etc.) Then load the texture (3rd image), export it to Photoshop it and that's it.
