Although the 1933 version was the first recorded it is argued that this song was around Appalachia for more than 50 years before.
If you read more into it some even say that the song was around back in the 1600’s, which is quite odd as New Orleans wasn’t even founded then. (I didn’t know it was losted, Hehehe). So, no one really knows the origin of this song, some even say it was traced back to London.
