Ahh, mrsexlover, this one is more depressing!  Bittersweet tragedy!

I don't think it's as good as the previous one, because I don't think it comes from the heart in the same way – or to put it another way, I don't think you really believe your own conclusion – or do you?

Sister Ray  –  The Velvet Underground

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d69mDT11yI

” 'Sister Ray' was done as a joke – no, not as a joke, but it has eight characters in it and this guy gets killed and nobody does anything. It was built around this story that I wrote about this scene of total debauchery and decay. I like to think of 'Sister Ray' as a transvestite smack dealer. The situation is a bunch of drag queens taking some sailors home with them, shooting up on smack and having this orgy when the police appear.” – Lou Reed

    Cecil's got his new piece
He cocks and shoots between three and four
He aims it at the Sailor
Shoots him down dead on the floor
    Oh, you shouldn't do that
Don't you know you'll stain the carpet
Don't you know you'll stain the carpet
And by the way man, have you got a dollar
Oh no man, I haven't got the time time
Too busy sucking on a ding dong
She's too busy sucking on my ding dong
Oh, she does it just like Sister Ray said….

Very moving, Mrsexlover – you can tell that this poem comes from the heart.

And getting back to poetry…  Amethyst's daughter's lovely poem got me thinking all things clouds, and this one popped into my head…  suitable for springtime too…

I WANDERED lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
              A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
              They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:                                  10
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
              In such a jocund company:
              I gazed–and gazed–but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,                              20
They flash upon that inward eye
              Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
              And dances with the daffodils.

                            William Wordsworth

Oh – well, you have to follow your passions and your interests, but I hope she doesn't focus entirely on one and not the other…  a lot of the best scientists are often very literate and good writers too – especially those that are good at explaining their ideas to a lay readership.

Lots of angels and other things in the clouds in this video…  :)

Aha – well, I'm not surprised to hear that – that's fantastic for her!

There are so many writing competitions etc for young people (i'm sure you know it anyway), it's a great way to maintain interest and keep developing writing skills, and maybe even get more published…  but of course it should be done for the enjoyment, satisfaction and pleasure of it first and foremost. Hope she keeps up with it.

    :)

'Just' a little ditty? It may only be short, but it's really well written!

Your daughter has clearly inherited your facility with words, Amethyst; a poet in the making…

I love to look at clouds and see so many different shapes and faces and creatures appearing, transforming, disappearing, to be replaced by ever-changing new ones…

Thanks for the spreadsheet. Transparency is always good, of course, but it's more for the entertainment value I was requesting it. Just seems like more fun if you can see before the race which players have tipped which driver, and then get to see how everyone does!

Can't watch much of the race anyhow, as am trying to get through a mountain of backed up emails…  Oh joyous Sunday afternoon!

So do we get to see which driver each of the tipping sweep players chose before race start time?

Gl to those in the the main draw today – I would have joined but unfortunately I am at present entirely destitute…

Hamilton, Vettel, Raikkonen 1, 2 and 3 today, is my prediction.  Rosberg gotta get his mojo back…

    Dear Granny Thyme,

Thanks for your answers, they were most illuminating. That'll teach me to engage in such flippant tomfoolery!

I hope you had a nice break, despite the arrest. However, I shall steer clear of asking after your wellbeing again in the future! Or of asking foolish rhetorical questions! Indeed, I shall be wary of darkening your advice column again with any of my frivolous nonsense!

I must say that your 'alternative uses' answer was a godsend, though – by sheer coincidence, I'm attending a Game of Thrones themed bacchanal this very evening, and I was stuck for a prop, so your timing was perfect. Purveyor of dragons' eggs I shall be!

Thanks again, Granny Thyme. Take care, and mind your hip joints when bending.

Hi, Tanya, and welcome to the forum  from another Brit! (Yes, we're taking over, haha…)

I'm still quite new here myself (one month anniversary today, yay!), though I've found it doesn't take long to become a 'full' member if you post often enough! (and thanks to Stone on another thread, for the congrats on that :) )

Hope you have fun here, Tanya, see you around  :)
